Do We Still Need White Label in iGaming
Your main decision as startup: do you need White Label iGaming product or not? Let's discuss this in our new article. Monoup talks about pros and cons of WL system and its alternatives.

White Label Gaming Websites and Whether They are Effective in 2025

Initial launch of an iGaming product in 2025 looks not really the same like in 2024, and of course not like in 2014. Although only a decade has passed, the industry changed so rapidly that yesterday's approaches are outdated today, not speaking about tomorrow.

The technical aspect has always been crucial, as developing a gaming platform is a complex process that one cannot complete without experienced professionals. Additionally, this may not allow you to open business immediately as development process takes a few years. This is why many new operators choose to collaborate with third-party platform providers who already have a ready-made solution.

The debate between Turnkey and White Label models is permanently ongoing, with both approaches having their pros and cons. We have previously provided a detailed description of different technical structures, which you can find in the linked article to refresh. Today, we will explore whether White Label model is effective in 2025 or not.

What is White Label Casino

Among all possible ways to launch an iGaming product, the two most widely used methods are Turnkey and White Label setups. It is important to note that although both approaches involve collaboration with a third-party casino platform developer, they differ significantly. A Turnkey online casino solution involves partnering with a platform as a technical partner. In this case, business belongs to the product owner, while the platform and all back-office functionality are owned by the platform provider. This model has proven successful over many years due to the clear division of responsibilities and straightforward interaction between the two partners. Business is separate from the actual platform, which can be changed if needed. Although there is some dependency, it is not absolute, however switching the online casino to another platform is complicated, but possible.

On the other hand, White Label is a more dependent option, as it relies entirely on the platform provider. The legal structure and website belong to the software provider, while operator (essentially the client) focuses solely on marketing. This setup is supposed to remove all the hassles of opening a company, obtaining a license, setting up payment systems, and purchasing various services. The operator can save on personnel, as platform's staff handles most routine tasks. In essence, gaming platform creates a ready-made casino, and White Label operator is responsible for its market development and shares profits with the platform in exchange for handling operational duties.

White Label is a very popular business model. One of the most successful platforms in this area is Softswiss constantly updates information about the increasing number of White Labels on its basis. The attractiveness of this setup is also due to its lower cost. For a large platform, creating a copy of a basic website and adding it under an existing license is not that expensive. Therefore, White Label operators can launch with the platform for a modest cost of $30-40 thousand. Considering that a single Anjouan license would cost the same if launched independently, this seems advantageous and, at first glance, beneficial.

However, the main drawback that young operators often overlook is the downside of such comprehensive support. If someone else handles everything for you, you must adapt to their pace. Often, platform cannot fulfill necessary tasks quickly, especially if it involves development and relies on previously implemented functions. Although an experienced platform may have many features, the market evolves so rapidly that new requirements emerge daily. As is known, those who react quickly are the ones who succeed.

Key Pros and Cons of WL Model in 2025

Although online gambling industry is relatively young, with its active development spanning about 35 years, its rapid evolution has highlighted several significant turning points. These have particularly exposed the vulnerabilities of White Label products. When industry just started, there were not as many well-designed and tested platforms available, making it challenging to obtain a proper White Label solution. Access to the industry was more restricted.

This is why we know several successful operators who have been using their own developments for over 10 years. Later, as the market attracted more businesspeople, services for these projects emerged. Similar to the gold rush, those who sold shovels made the most profit. This analogy is actually very proper for White Label, as often, those who sell these products are the ones who profit, not their buyers.

Starting with the pros, it is clear that White Label allows significant time and cost savings at launch. The platform can create a basic product in just a few months and supply a typical website under a new logo. Additionally, the platform can handle customer support, user retention, financials, and payment system integration. These are routine tasks that many beginners lack experience in, and outsourcing them to the platform seems like a good solution. On one hand, this is indeed an opportunity to learn, observe others, gain experience, and build a team of skilled colleagues. However, the primary goal for owners is usually to bring the product to market and make a profit, not gain experiences. This is where the main drawbacks of this structure become obvious.

The downsides that White Labels face today are mainly connected to real market conditions and the clash between expectations and reality.

The high competition in modern iGaming market demands adaptability and speed, which are almost impossible if you have to wait months for tasks to be completed by the platform developers. The overall development is so overloaded that it cannot meet deadlines most of the time.

Additionally, White Label operators cannot truly outperform competitors through technical and functional solutions, as everything they develop and implement will be available to all clients of their platform. They will either use what others have already developed or what the platform provides. This means there is no room for genuine innovation, and everything is secondary. Regardless of how platform providers try to present White Label solutions, the fact remains clear — all good ideas are spread across the entire platform and monetized by all brands.

Another significant drawback of White Label model is the interaction with payment systems and banks. Since legal structure does not belong to the operator, platform handles all these issues as an intermediary, purchasing solutions for all its products at once at some discount rate. This makes it difficult to obtain more favorable terms or stand out in negotiations, as operator is not involved in these discussions. Many gaming licenses either do not provide or are considering rejecting White Label operation option, as it is also challenging to track payments and websites and determine their ownership. Therefore, we do not rule out the possibility that in another 10 years, White Label model may cease to exist altogether.

But is this a bad thing? Summarizing all just said and coming back to the question whether White Label is worth it today and if it makes sense to use it, we have increasing doubts. The only benefit is that it can cover a budget shortfall and launch on a minimal expense. However, this only applies to the launch, as the marketing budget must still be substantial.

Often, the lack of traffic on website becomes the reason for closing business. The market saturation with products shows that a low-budget approach is not very effective today unless you have a unique brand idea or quality promotions (which also require a budget). Some may argue that they are already operating under White Label model and are satisfied with the results, which we will not dispute at all.

However, it is crucial to note that if the goal is to bring your product to the top, it is better to choose Turnkey or own software. The motivation for this choice is not about having excess budget and looking where to put it. This is about critical evaluation of opportunities and competitive advantages you would have if choose this path.
